Is it just me, or has Hollywood really gone downhill? Don’t get me wrong there is an occasional good movie out there, but for the most part it’s complete and utter trash. I can’t remember the last time I went to the movies. True, I prefer watching movies at home where I can pause them, but I haven’t even seen a movie on Netflix or released on DVD that I have the urge to see. So many movies that have looked interesting in recent history have been a huge let down. Either they have too much propaganda in them, or they are just badly written. I don’t know about you, but I watch movies and read books to be entertained. I don’t want political propaganda with social justice issues in my movies and books. And honestly, it doesn’t even matter to me if the views expressed coincide with mine; I don’t want it in my entertainment. If I did, I’d watch the news and those who know me even a little know how I am about my happy endings. I read and watch movies to escape, like I think most people do. So that said, I have made myself a list of old movies to either watch for the first time or to rewatch, and books to reread or classics to read for the first time.

Movies I’ve never seen but want to:

Casablanca -yes I know there is definitely political stuff in there, but it’s history. History doesn’t count and It doesn’t beat you over the head with it.

A Wonderful Life-  I started watching this one, but need to finish it.

Breakfast at Tiffanys

Miracle on 34th Street

Movies I love and want to rewatch:

Gone with the Wind

The Sound of Music

The Happiest Millionaire

The Parent Trap (the Haley Mills version)

The Wizard of Oz

Singing in the Rain

Viva Las Vegas

It Happened at the World’s Fair

Girls, Girls, Girls

Mary Poppins

Books I love and want to re-read:

Whitney My Love And Something Wonderful by Judith McNaught

The North and South trilogy by John Jakes

Tales of a Fourth Grade Nothing and Super Fudge by Judy Blume- Yup, I know it’s a kids book, but it was a good one

Paper Rose by Diana Palmer- I’ve probably reread this book more than any other book I own

Classics I want to read:

The Sherlock Holmes stories by Sir Conan Doyle

Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen

Gone with the Wind by Margaret Mitchell

Lord of the Rings by J.R.R. Tolkien

Friday’s Child by Georgette Heyer

Dracula by Bram Stoker

A Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens

The Grand Sophy by Georgette Heyer

So tell me my lovely readers, what are your thoughts about new movies? Do any of you have recommendations? I’d love to hear them!
